Maury Poscover, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on June 16, 2025, at the age of 81.
Born in St. Louis on January 13,1944, Maury lived a life grounded in purpose, service, and unwavering love for his family and baseball. He graduated University City High School in 1962, earned his Bachelor of Arts from Lehigh University in 1966 and his Juris Doctor from Washington University in St. Louis School of Law in 1969. Shortly after completing his law degree, Maury joined Husch Eppenberger (later Husch Blackwell) in 1969, where he became a driving force in shaping the firm’s success. He later served as Managing Partner, guiding the firm with wisdom, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. Maury retired from the firm in 2019 after a 50 year career and was valued for his commitment to his clients and his mentorship to his legal colleagues.
Maury held numerous leadership positions within the American Bar Association (ABA), including serving as Chair of the Business Law Section, as a member of the ABA Board of Governors, the ABA standing committee on Federal Judiciary, and ultimately as chair of the ABA retirement fund. He also made lasting contributions as the Chair of the ABA Commission on Racial and Ethnically Diverse, demonstrating his commitment to diversity and inclusion within the legal profession. Through his leadership, the commission made strides in promoting racial and ethnic diversity, shaping a more equitable future for the legal community.
A lifelong St Louis resident and an avid Cardinal fan, Maury was a civic leader dedicated to his local community. His roots in University City began as a child and continued throughout his life. Maury and his high school sweetheart (Lorrie) settled in U.City, raised their three children who attended their alma mater, University City High School.
Maury was a dedicated baseball coach at Heman Park, frequent runner of the U.City Memorial Day Run and staunch supporter of the public schools. He served as President of the Bar Association of St. Louis. He was a proud supporter of the Jewish Federation of St. Louis, Washington University and was particularly committed to the Jewish Community Relations Council where he previously served as President.
For 58 years, he was the devoted husband of Lorrie Wexler Poscover, his partner in all things. Together, they built a life rooted in love, learning, and shared values. He was the proud father of Michael Poscover (Randi), Daniel Poscover (Jessica), and Joanna Schranz (Craig). He was a deeply cherished grandfather to Rebekah, Jacob, Zachary, Joshua, and Maya Poscover, Yael, Noah, and Moriah Schranz. Each of them carries forward his warmth, intellect, wit, and love of stories.
Maury was preceded in death by his parents, Ann and Edward Poscover; his sister, Lea Elias; and his brother, Gary Poscover. Their memories were a guiding light in his life, and he honored them in all he did.
Visitation begins at 12 PM followed by a funeral service at 1 PM on Thursday, June 19th at United Hebrew Congregation in Chesterfield. Burial follows at Chesed Shel Emeth Cemetery in Chesterfield.
